Treasuring The Journey

Treasuring the journey through life, one footstep at a time.

I finally decided to do it… October 27, 2010

Hello my name is Iris Williams and I am officially a blogger!  Woo-Hoo!

I have debated for months on starting a blog and once I decided that, YES, I did want to start a blog, then the hard decisions started.  A title, a theme, what the heck I would write about, how often I would blog, and so on.  The decision on a title was the hardest part.  I had several ideas, but evidently there are many other people with the same ideas and with great minds!  🙂  Many of us are thinking alike.  I have worked on a title for several weeks in my brain, checking Google, and WordPress, to no avail until last night.

I was reading one of my “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” books and came across the last entry in the book.  It was entitled “Treasure the Journey” and as soon as I read it I knew that I wanted it to be my blog title.   I kept my fingers crossed that it or something like it would be available.  So this morning I checked on the WordPress site for the availability of and lucky for me it was available.  I knew it was the one when I also created a separate email account for this blog on Yahoo (  Here we are!

A little background about the title “Treasuring the Journey”
I opted for “treasuring” and not simply “treasure” as I want the act of treasuring my journey to be a present act and not simply a statement.  Life can get hectic and chaotic and sometimes I have to remind myself to slow down and look for the small things that make life so great, you know all of life’s little treasures.  Also, upon looking up the exact definition of “treasure”, I knew it was a good fit.

Treasure as a noun:
1. Accumulated or stored wealth in the form of money, jewels, or other valuables.
2. Valuable or precious possessions of any kind.
3. One considered especially precious or valuable.

Treasure as a verb: treasured, treasuring, treasures
1. To keep or regard as precious; value highly.
2. To accumulate and store away, as for future use.

The title is a good fit in that life is a treasure – it is valuable and precious.  Life is also a journey, not a destination and the journey we take each day should also be treasured, not just life in totality.   I also am working diligently on going through my “treasures” in life and de-cluttering, organizing, and creating a home full of life, love, and laughter, not things.   🙂

A little about me…Let’s see where to start.
I am recently married (May 2010) to my wonderful husband, Pete, and I must say he is truly a blessing.  We are expecting our first child (a BOY!!!) in March and are ever so ecstatic about it!   We have wonderful families that love and support us (more to come about them in future posts).  We both hail from the deep South, me from Alabama, Pete from Mississippi, and we live in Sweet Home Alabama.   I have some OCD tendencies when it comes to organization, I am a thrift-store/yard-sale scavenger, I love to garden and get a little dirty in the yard, I am a rookie DIYer, and hope to improve upon my skills and tell all of you about my trials and tribulations as I learn more.

More to come tomorrow! Thanks for reading! Hooray! My 1st Post!
